Things to do in North Adams

North Adams contains about 4.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail, mostly within the Mount Greylock State Reservation. The reservation’s northern access (Notch Road) to the summit is accessed from North Adams, and several hikes originate in the city, including The Cascades, a short hike to a waterfall on Notch Brook. Windsor Lake Park has a swimming and picnic area and one of the few Disc Golf Courses in the area. Another popular State Park in the area, Natural Bridge State Park, is the site of a former marble quarry and the only natural white marble arch in North America. The 550-million-year-old bedrock marble was carved out by glacial meltwater into the 60-foot gorge visitors can see today. The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is planned to extend north into North Adams; currently, the trail terminates in the nearby town of Adams. An additional multi-use path, the North Adams Adventure Trail, is planned to connect North Adams to Williamstown on or near Route 2 and the Hoosic River.
