Things to do in New Marlborough

New Marlborough is an assembly of 5 villages and home to about 1,500 individuals, situated along the Connecticut border between Sheffield and Sandisfield. On the northern edge of town, the Berkshire Trout Hatchery takes advantage of the plentiful spring water to raise Lake Trout for release into the great lakes as well as Brown, Rainbow, and Brook Trout for stocking in New England lakes and rivers. Lake Buel is shared with nearby Monterey and was the home to a variety of camps and communities in the early 1900’s. Today it is home to Camp Half Moon, Kutsher’s Sports Academy, and many private cottages. The town is home to several rivers, including the Konkapot, Whiting, and Umpachene, all of which flow into the Housatonic River. Umpachene Falls Park has trails and picnic areas next to its 40-foot waterfall. The Thousand Acre Swamp and Cookson State Forest offers birdwatchers and hunters opportunities for solitude and wildlife viewing. A trail around York Lake allows hikers, paddlers, and anglers to access the lake and swampy areas within Sandisfield State Forest.
