Things to do in Lee
The “Gateway to the Berkshires”, Lee has a variety of lakes and rivers; the Housatonic River flows through the town from Lenox to Stockbridge, Goose Pond is known for its clear, clean water, proximity to the Appalachian Trail, and population of brown trout. Laurel Lake, is home to Lee Sandy Beach At 16,500 acres, October Mountain State Forest is the largest state forest in Massachusetts. The park is popular with hikers, hunters, campers, cross-country skiers, snowmobilers, and ORV users. A variety of trail networks are interspersed throughout the park and are connected to campgrounds that offer yurts and campsites during the summer season. The southern end of town connects to Beartown State Forest, an additional 12,000 acres of forested parklands that offer many similar features. The newly created Donato’s Trail is a 2+ mile loop trail in South Lee. A little less than 1 mile of the Appalachian Trail passes through Lee, and the town became an Appalachian Trail Community in 2023.
